Did you know that up to 13% of infertility might be caused by smoking? As a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialist, I want my patients to be as healthy as possible prior to attempting pregnancy. While most people are well aware smoking can lead to cancer, lung disease, and heart disease, they are not aware of the significant impact smoking has on fertility.
Below are common questions about smoking and fertility health.
As Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialists, we often see patients who are looking for alternative ways to increase their chance of pregnancy. Acupuncture has been shown in some studies to increase chance of pregnancy during fertility treatment. Struggling to conceive and going through fertility treatments can be stressful, and acupuncture can help to reduce some of that stress. Here are 5 things you should know about acupuncture.
- Who acupuncturists work with – Acupuncture can be helpful to support both female and male fertility by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, balancing hormones, reducing inflammation, and improving sleep and stress. Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
One of the things that brought me to this career was when I was a medical student walking the halls of Michigan State University clinical campus in Saginaw Michigan. As I was in the hospital, I walked by a door with the words IVF lab. I thought to myself what a spectacular thing going on in that room! They are helping people create their families and could there be anything more magnificent? At that moment I decided I would apply for my obstetrics and gynecological Residency. Specifically at a place that would give me a good chance of getting the competitive spot in reproductive endocrinology training called a fellowship that would follow. Being involved in this area and space of science and medicine has been an amazing life opportunity.

Can This Test Tell You When You Should Have a Baby? Article by: Sally Holmes, Marie Claire, October 1, 2018

I’ve always thought about my “fertility” in a nebulous, romantic kind of way—I want two kids, maybe three if it’s financially viable; I’d want them to be close-ish in age, a boy and a girl, if I had a choice. I put fertility quotation marks because I’d never call it that, but of course, that’s exactly what it is.
