As women age, the quantity and quality of their eggs decrease. For women who are not currently attempting pregnancy (single or in a relationship), it can be difficult to know if there are any fertility related issues occurring until it’s too late. By electing to do the Vios Pulse, you can learn more about the status of your egg reserve and get a better understanding of your overall reproductive hormones. If you have a male partner, he will have a semen analysis performed to better understand the health of his sperm (unlike women where age is an important indicator for fertility, it is not so much for men). This gives a good overall picture of your reproductive health as a couple and can alert you to any potential issues that could arise in the future.
We have two levels to our Vios Pulse Fertility Wellness Check Up:
Vios Pulse – $99
- Bloodwork to test:
- Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
- Estradiol (E2)
- Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH)
- Antral follicle count (AFC) ultrasound
- Semen analysis with strict morphology
Vios Pulse Comprehensive – $499
Includes all tests in the Vios Pulse; plus:
Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS) Ultrasound (a.k.a. Saline Sonohysterogram (SHG))
On day 2-5 of your menstrual cycle, an AFC ultrasound will be performed and blood drawn. The semen analysis can be done at anytime or saved for a future partner. The SIS Ultrasound will be performed on days 6-11 of your menstrual cycle.
There is an ideal range for FSH, E2 and AMH for your age that the physician will review. When these levels are too high or too low, it can indicate a lower fertility potential.
The AFC ultrasound gives a good indication of how many resting follicles you have during your current menstrual cycle. Typically, each follicle contains an egg. During a normal menstrual cycle, one follicle becomes the lead follicle to produce the mature egg. The physician will review the ideal follicle range for your age.
A SHG ultrasound is used to detect any abnormal structures on the inside of uterine cavity. A small volume of sterile saline is injected into the uterus using a catheter expanding the cavity; which allows the physician to visualize any polyps or fibroids.
A semen analysis measures three major factors of sperm health: the count, the motility (movement), and the morphology (shape). A normal semen count ranges between 20 and 200 million. Motility and morphology are analyzed to determine the percentage of sperm that are shaped correctly and moving normally.
The physician will review the results and provide recommendations for future family planning. Knowing your current fertility status can give you peace of mind for the future.
If a you have an abnormal result, a consultation can be scheduled with a physician to discuss options for maximizing your fertility potential in the future or preserving your fertility through egg vitrification.
