This week we had the incredible opportunity to attend The Conference Board Employee Healthcare Conference in beautiful San Diego. The event brought leading employers and benefits executives to discuss the latest trends and innovations in employee healthcare.

Our Founding Physician, Dr. Fahimeh Sasan, was joined on stage by Kindbody employer clients’, Emily Gulino of Princeton University and Sara Richards of Redbull, to discuss the importance of offering reproductive healthcare benefits that cover all life stages.

Here are some highlights from the event:

  • The workforce has never been more diverse and their reproductive health and family-building needs more broad. A comprehensive program should cover: a range of ages, varying conditions, all gender identities, heterosexual couples, same-sex couples, single parents and they should be geographically distributed.
  • Red Bull was able to reinvest the savings from their Kindbody benefit to make their fertility benefits go farther for their employees, giving them more options for family building.
  • Princeton shared that in order for fertility benefits to be truly equitable across your entire employee population, they should cover donor services.
  • Menopause support has emerged as one of the must have benefits programs among employers. Red Bull offers menopause support through Kindbody.
  • Employers don’t want another virtual care navigator or digital app to manage fertility care, which is one of the most important and often expensive treatments for employees. They want a hybrid solution of both virtual and in-person care.

Next stop: The Conference Board in New York. We hope to see you there!

Reducing barriers to high-quality reproductive healthcare is our North Star at Kindbody, and as reproductive physicians it is our life’s work. We applaud the new legislation passed by Alabama lawmakers that protects doctors from doing in vitro fertilization (IVF) from legal liability if embryos they help to create are damaged or destroyed, opening the door for IVF to resume in that state. This legislation is an important step in ensuring individuals and couples have the access to the care they need to build the family of their dreams in Alabama and nationwide.

On February 16, an Alabama’s Supreme Court ruling classified embryos as children and exposed doctors to legal liability, effectively halting IVF in that state. The two weeks that followed have been a living nightmare for doctors and patients in Alabama who were in the process of, or thinking about, building their family through IVF. Beyond Alabama, families all across the country fear their access to reproductive healthcare is at risk - and sadly, they are not mistaken. This is unacceptable. Every person should have the agency and the ability to access fertility care and advanced reproductive technologies if they want or need them. Everyone has the right to build the family of their dreams.

Kindbody was founded nearly six years ago to make access to reproductive healthcare available to everyone, not just a privileged few. While we are pleased with the recent decision, we remain fiercely vigilant that reproductive healthcare is under threat in this country. We will continue to closely monitor the regulatory landscape and will be prepared to act swiftly in the best interest of our patients, clients, and their employees. Our mission of making fertility and family-building care accessible for all has never been more critical than it is today.

Dr. Angeline Beltsos, Chief Executive Physician

Leading Fertility Clinic Network and Family-Building Benefits Provider Continues Nationwide Expansion as Demand for Fertility and Family-Building Care Accelerates

NEW YORK, February 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ – Kindbody, the leading national fertility clinic network and global family-building benefits provider for employers, today announced the opening of its state-of-the-art clinic and IVF lab at 8845 Lyra Dr in Columbus, OH. This expansion reflects Kindbody’s commitment to making world-class reproductive care more accessible to employers and patients across the United States. The clinic is led by Dr. Kasey Reynolds Marelić, a double-board certified fertility specialist in both reproductive endocrinology and obstetrics and gynecology.

Kindbody Columbus was built to serve local patients and employers with convenient access to Kindbody’s exceptional fertility care. “We’re delighted to continue our expansion to bring our mission of high-quality fertility and family-building care to Columbus employers, their employees, and the entire community,” said Annbeth Eschbach, CEO of Kindbody. “We continue to hear from employers about the vital role fertility benefits play in attracting and retaining talent, building inclusive workplaces, and contributing to the health and well-being of their workforce. We look forward to serving the entire Columbus community for years to come."

Kindbody’s model is unique in that it is the only family-building benefits provider for employers that is also in the provision of care. Kindbody opens clinics across the U.S., often at the request of employers, who wish to provide comprehensive virtual and in-person care for their employees. As the benefits solution and direct provider of care, Kindbody is uniquely positioned to decrease cost, improve the patient experience, and deliver better health outcomes.

Dr. Marelić said, “I’m truly passionate about helping people build families and am delighted to serve individuals and couples in Columbus and the entire state on their reproductive journey. Together we can navigate the path to parenthood with compassion and Kindbody’s personalized approach to care.”

Dr. Kasey Reynolds Marelić joins Kindbody from Bethesda Fertility Center in Cincinnati, OH, where she served as Medical Director. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Ohio University, before going on to obtain her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, and subsequently, a three-year subspecialty fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Marelić has contributed significantly to research in reproductive health, publishing studies on critical topics like the effects of obesity on oocyte quality. As scientists, reproductive endocrinologists and clinicians, who have devoted our lives to helping people navigate the complexities of reproductive healthcare and build families, we are extremely disappointed in the recent Alabama Supreme Court decision. Frozen embryos created for in vitro fertilization (IVF) now have the same legal rights as children in the state of Alabama. This ruling contradicts science and, as we’ve already seen, will have a devastating impact on fertility treatments and reproductive rights for the citizens of Alabama. It not only misrepresents the complexities of reproductive technology but also threatens to undermine the rights of patients and the medical ethics that are fundamental to our profession.

First and foremost, as medical professionals, we are deeply troubled by the intrusion of politics into the relationship between doctor and patient. Access to healthcare is our North Star at Kindbody and evidence-based, patient-centered care is the foundation on which our company was built. Infertility is a disease that affects one in six people worldwide. As doctors, we are acutely aware of the emotional and financial toll infertility takes on our patients. For many of our patients, embryos represent the hope of realizing their dream of starting or expanding their families. The Alabama Supreme Court ruling undermines this hope by subjecting embryos to legal scrutiny and forcing patients to live with the devastating prospect of not having the ability to make decisions about their reproductive futures. It will restrict access to and drive up costs of essential care that is needed by many, and is already inaccessible to most. The Supreme Court decision directly contradicts the scientific advancements that provide today the best chance of success and moreover will restrict access to care for people in need.

This ruling must not set new precedent and block the many hopeful families, many of whom we’re honored to serve every day in our national clinics, in their path to creating a family. In fact, this need and demand is rising rapidly: We anticipate that IVF will continue its double digit annual growth where a decade ago 1 in 8 couples struggled with infertility and today, we see as many as 1 in 6 confront fertility challenges. There is a growing and critical need to help these patients build their families and any restriction of access to support them from healthcare professionals should be vigorously blocked.

We stand with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, and believe the choice to build a family is a fundamental right for all Americans, regardless of where they live. The path to parenthood  is a personal decision that should be made by families, not politicians. We stand in solidarity with anyone who wishes to build the family of their dreams. As we consider and plan for the impacts of this new law, Kindbody’s national network of clinics will continue to be accessible to everyone who needs care, and our doctors will do what is necessary to support our patients regardless of where they live in the U.S. We have never been more committed to making fertility and family-building care accessible for all.
